Curriculum
Students ages 5-12 register for weekly private lessons and a culminating recital. It has been my experience that this curriculum allows students to be most successful. As students progress, it becomes necessary for private lessons to lengthen to 45 minutes and then 60 minutes. Students over the age of 12, or who participate in an extra curricular music ensemble, may register for longer private lessons. I have found that this progression allows older students to explore additional musical opportunities within the community such as youth orchestra and chamber music.
PRIVATE LESSONS
Private lessons are one-on-one sessions with the parent, student, and teacher. Lessons are 30 minutes in length and are held weekly. Parents are required to attend lessons with their children between the ages of 5-12. This is so the parent can observe lessons and oversee practice as the “home teacher.” Students over the age of 12 are not required to have a parent in attendance at private lessons.
RECITALS
At the conclusion of each session, students will perform on a recital. Recitals will consist of solo and group performances. All students are required to perform on the culminating recital - no exceptions! There is a piano accompanist at recitals that will perform with the student and a reception with refreshments. It is crucial for students to be showered with attention and positive praise at the conclusion of a recital. They deserve it!
